Today has been a day of troublesome tractors!

The Tractor Guy’s aimed to set out from Beattock at around 9.30am – but Bish quickly discovered that his tractor was losing power and needed to be looked at.

Fortunately, Robert J Currie or Rab as he’s known (Blacksmith and Agricultural Engineer) was only 10 minutes away. He’d already helped the guys out the previous day with a spot of welding on the nearside king-pin on Tone’s tractor… today he sent one of his men down to take a look at this new problem.

The engineer worked on the tractor for an hour - free of charge - and the company also made a donation to the cause – which was incredibly generous of them! But after an hour when he’d done as much as he could, the tractor was still not right.

However, it was midday and The Tractor Guys really needed to be on their way.

They travelled about 47 miles through Lockerbie, Gretna Green and Carlisle, after which they were met by another tractor guy – this time –James Craig who followed them for about 2 miles.

It was a blessing that he was there as it was just at this point that Bish’s tractor broke down. James was on hand with his Ford Dexter to tow him along for the next 7 miles through to Penrith.

Now Penrith, as it turns out, has many cobbled roads… and being towed along a cobbled road, on a vintage tractor… well, it certainly wasn’t the smoothest of rides put it that way! Need we say more? Poor Bish!

This evening Tones and Bish would like to thank Askham Oil Supplies in Penrith from the kind donation of fuel!

They’re staying at a B&B courtesy of Jamie Fisher and hoping for a much better day tomorrow!
